Asturias Region: Llanes-->Gijón-->Oviedo

Up next along the northern coast is the region of Asturias. I am enthralled by the lovely cities and towns sandwiched between the sea and the mountains. This would certainly provide a ton of outdoor recreational opportunities, along with the culture and amenities of city life. I must say, I took a few peeks at real estate listings in sidewalk windows (just in case).

Through some genealogical research, I learned that a set of my maternal great (x10) grandparents Juan de Villalpando and wife Ursula de Olae were from the Llanes area and their place of death is listed as the small village of Posada in 1718-1720. I walked a section of the Camino de Santiago linking several of the villages outside of Llanes where some of my long-ago ancestors may have also trekked. I can't help but wonder how very different life must have been in the late 1600s/early 1700s. Certainly, they didn't worry about dead zones in cell phone service in these rural, mountainous areas.

Outside the village of Poo (not a typo), I met an 84-year old woman visiting her husband's grave in the local cemetery. After talking with her about my ancestors, she said that many of the deceased from that long ago were re-buried deeper in the ground of the two local cemeteries. Perhaps some of ancestors lay in the ground beneath the cemetery in the second picture below?

A few more pics below from the town of Llanes...
