After months of anticipation, the big trip is near, and I am not quite psychologically ready. It's been a busy time retiring from a public health career and squeezing in celebratory time with friends and taking in the beautiful fall color and weather.
Fortunately, my plan has been to not have much of a plan or itinerary for the five or so weeks that I'll spend in Spain. I know where I'm arriving (Bilbao) and where I'm departing from (Barcelona). Hmmm, will this be a trip be brought to you by the letter "B"? Burgos, Baeza, and Badajoz. I think I will have to break free from the letter "B" to get a better taste of this Spain.
I'm hoping to get a good feel for most of the regions of Spain and their differing culture, cuisine, and geography. I also hope to visit some towns and regions that some of my maternal ancestors once called home. More importantly, I'm hoping this extended time away will allow me to reflect on my life so far and to explore what I'd like to pursue next. I'm really curious whether five weeks will feel like enough time. Either way, now is not the time to feel any pressure to have the rest of my life figured out by mid November :-) Reminds me a bit of figuring out what you want to major in during college. Looking forward to some adventure and exploration of literal and figurative types.
